Alongside all the political changes happening in the UK right now, the dental industry too has a new lead. Jason Wong has been confirmed as the new Chief Dental Officer (CDO) for England by NHS England https://www.england.nhs.uk/primary-care/dentistry/leading-the-change/ and the Department of Health & Social Care to act as the national professional lead for oral health strategy and dental care in England

The recruitment process has been ongoing since last June when Sara Hurley, who had held the post for 8 years, stepped down. Jason is well equipped for the role having served as Deputy CDO for England since June 2020, chaired numerous local dental networks for many years and in was awarded an MBE for his services to dentistry and oral health in the 2020 new year honours list.

Working in partnership with both local and regional teams across the UK to deliver better outcomes for patients in his new role, Wong will also be keeping a day in clinical practice.He said: ‘I’m very proud to be appointed to the CDO role. It’s a challenging time for NHS dentistry and I know there is more to do to recover and improve services for patients. I look forward to working with colleagues across the system to support them to recover and improve, and to lead the transformation of NHS dental services.’
