The hot knife is an efficient tool to cut away the vacuumed formed appliances from the model. It heats up within a minute or so and is ready for use. As well as flexible sheets used for bleaching trays and night guards, it can also be used for harder (retainer) material, potentially eliminating the head work of cutting them using a diamond bur/disc.
